Status of the Snohomish County Comp Plan Update
The Snohomish County Council adopted its mandatory periodic update to the comprehensive plan in early December, striking a balance between accommodating future growth through significant increases in density (primarily focused in the Southwest UGA) and targeted expansions of Urban Growth Areas (UGAs). Two expansions didn’t sit well with the County Executive (“Maltby” and “Sunset” Road) who pulled out the veto pen shortly before Christmas. The Maltby expansion is dead, but the Council amended its proposed action along Sunset Road and sent a new ordinance back to the Executive, which was similarly vetoed. The Council has up to 30 days (in this case the end of January) after a veto to attempt an override of the Executive . . . the question in this case is, will they?
In the meantime, the approved comprehensive plan ordinances, including several UGA expansions supported by the Executive. . .
